A small family business
Dallas Wedding Uplighting is run by Jim and Laura Weisz. It’s a division of Discovery Lighting, and between the two of them they handle just about all of it.
Jim takes care of client contact and handles the events. Laura runs the business side, while their three boys, Josh (16), Tyler (14), and Mason (13), have started coming along on jobs now that they’re old enough to be helpful. They load gear and program lights, and they’ve gotten good at it.

You’ll work directly with Jim
When you email, Jim is the one who answers. He writes your quote and answers your questions, and he stays your point of contact right through your wedding day. No account rep, no getting handed to someone you’ve never spoken to.
We keep the company small on purpose. It’s the reason your wedding gets real attention instead of going through a queue.
How it started
Jim started Discovery in March 2000, right as he was heading into college, DJing events around Chicago. He moved to Dallas in 2003 and rebuilt the business here.
Uplighting came along in 2010 as an add-on for couples who’d already booked a DJ. Enough of them wanted lighting on its own that it turned into its own company.
What we do
Uplighting, mostly. We went to wireless, battery-powered lights years ago, so there are no extension cords taped across your venue floor.
Discovery Lighting has worked close to 100 DFW venues over the past 15 years, so there’s a decent chance we’ve already lit the room you booked. Arlington Hall, Union Station, the Ritz-Carlton, White Sparrow Barn, the Fort Worth Club, and plenty of others.
